What do you need 3d scanning sprays for?
3D scanning sprays are used for matting and anti-reflective coating of highly reflective, mirror-like, transparent and very dark surfaces. This allows them to be scanned better in optical measurement technology (e.g. 3D laser scanning) and complex geometries to be measured more precisely and quickly. The sprays are particularly indispensable for 3D scanning of components. The REFLECON® 3D scanning spray is sprayed onto the surfaces beforehand.
WHAT TYPES OF MATTING SPRAYS ARE THERE?
There are basically two types of 3D scanning sprays:
- Self-volatilizing, i.e. sublimating scanning sprays (our REFLECON® TARNISH – TYPE 1)
- non-self-volatilizing, non-sublimating scanning sprays (our REFLECON® TARNISH – TYPE 2)
Sublimating 3D scanning sprays are particularly suitable for large objects, paint layers and plastics. As the applied spray evaporates after a while, it does not have to be removed from large areas. It is therefore also advantageous for objects that are difficult to clean, including small or delicate objects.
Non-sublimating 3D scanning sprays are well suited for non-coated objects, metals, non-metals and thermoplastics. A fine white layer of powder forms during application, which must be removed later. It can be easily removed with a cloth, a brush or simply with water. The non-sublimating spray is particularly recommended for time-intensive scanning processes, as it does not evaporate automatically.

TopoTrack spray revolutionizes 3D scanning! It’s also one of the sublimating scanning sprays, so it doesn’t need to be removed, as it evaporates like all the other sublimating sprays in the REFLECON series.
What’s special about TopoTrack: this innovative spray creates a system of reference structures on the surface which help the scanner to orientate itself precisely – without the need to stick and remove reference points.
TopoTrack spray is not only user-friendly, but also gentle on the scanner’s fan, as the spray produces no dust residue.
