The Itemiser® 5X is the newest and most advanced explosives and narcotics trace detection device in Rapiscan Systems’ established Itemiser family. It is capable of detecting a wide range of narcotics and explosives in the nanogram range. Ionization is achieved through UV irradiation (non‑radioactive) and is not subject to any regulatory authority restrictions.
Substance identification is performed by comparing measurement values with optimized, integrated detection libraries as well as advanced software algorithms. Typical fields of application include passenger, personnel, and cargo/goods screening.
The Itemiser® 5X is approved by ECAC (European Civil Aviation Conference) for screening passengers, staff, and cargo. Furthermore, it is listed and certified in Annex R3 as permissible security equipment under §10a LuftSiG for the operational areas defined in §§ 5 and 8 LuftSiG. In addition, the device meets the requirements of the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and is listed in the Air Cargo Screening Technology List (ACSTL) as an approved technology.
Rapiscan Systems offers a special sampling wand for the Itemiser® 5X. This innovative repeat‑sampling wand acts as an extended arm for the operator and prevents direct contact with the sampling swab or the object surface. It also helps maintain physical distance from the person being screened. An easy‑to‑use counting wheel reliably documents the number of samples taken.
