- Excellent heat dissipation
Fast, precise testing
The SciAps X-505 is the smallest and lightest portable X-ray analyzer ever manufactured by SciAps. In terms of speed, only the X-550 is faster. Weighing 1.5kg (including battery), it delivers the small size, lightning-fast speed, and high precision of the SciAps X-series in a perfectly balanced device.
It is fast on all alloys, including aluminum. With its state-of-the-art design and excellent heat dissipation, the X-505 can be used all day long without the device failing due to overheating.
NDT-PMI | Non-destructive X-ray testing
Provides PMI for most alloys in 1 second with excellent precision
1.5kg with battery – The vast majority of PMI work involves common stainless steels, Cr-Mo steels, low alloy steels, and high-temperature alloys such as nickel, titanium, and cobalt-based alloys, superalloys, and specialty alloys such as tungsten carbides, tin-lead solders, zirconium alloys, and many more. The X-505 checks the quality and chemical composition in 1-2 seconds with excellent precision.
Residues in the alloy application
Measure the content of Ni, Cr, and Cu down to 0.01-0.02% to ensure that the sum of the three elements is less than 0.15%. And also meet the latest requirements that V and Nb are both < 0.02%.
Sulfur-based corrosion
In combination with an optimized tube-detector geometry, the X-505 measures silicon in steels to below 0.1%. The silicon content is important to prevent corrosion processes in the presence of sulfur-containing compounds.
Scrap processing
A major advance for the sorting of aluminum alloys. The historical weakness of X-ray has been the sorting of aluminum alloys. This is because most X-ray guns cannot measure magnesium (Mg) well, and Mg analysis is crucial for the correct sorting of aluminum alloys. The X-505 was developed for optimal sensitivity to magnesium (Mg) and also silicon (Si). The result is an analyzer that enables accurate sorting of aluminum alloys. See the guide to sorting aluminum alloys
Excellent for high-temperature resistant alloys and precious metals
Like most XRFs, the X-505 offers fast and precise chemical investigations on a wide range of high-temperature alloys, stainless steels, copper alloys, and precious metals.
Tramp elements
Scrap processing goes beyond pure grade sorting. Many consumers now require analysis for accompanying or residual elements in common steel, nickel, and copper alloys. The X-505 is optimized for low detection limits for common accompanying elements, including Cr, Ni, Cu, V, Nb, Mo in steels, Pb and Bi in nickel alloys, and various undesirable elements in copper alloys.
Mining
Now available for exploration and ore grade control applications. Contact us if you would like to learn more about our elemental analysis for exploration and pathfinder applications. SciAps XRF analyzers are used worldwide by many large exploration companies and mining laboratory service providers. Also available with a compact test stand for closed-beam operation.
Environmental and soil analysis
The X-505 can be equipped with an elemental analysis of environmental soils. The analysis package includes the 8 RCRA metals and 11 of the EPA’s 12 priority pollutant metals (with the exception of beryllium, for which our Z200 LIBS is used). The X-505 complies with the long-standing EPA method 6200.
RoHS Applications
The X-505 will soon be available with our RoHS and Halogen-Free apps, which provide fast and accurate analysis of the RoHS elements Pb, Cd, Br, total Cr and Hg, as well as Cl for halogen-free requirements.
General Analytics
Do you have a unique analytical application? The X-505 can be equipped with our Empirical App, which allows the user to set up unique beam conditions, define specific elements of interest, and create custom calibrations. For analytical requirements that go beyond the scope of alloys, ores, and polymers, the X-505 plus Empirical App offers complete flexibility for unique or proprietary analytical requirements.
A brief comparison: X-550 vs. X-505
What is the difference between the premium model X-550 and the workhorse X-505? The answer is simple: speed with low atomic number elements such as Mg, Al, Si, P, and S.
The X-550 operates at approximately three times the X-ray power in the “Beam 2” setting (also known as the low voltage setting) compared to the X-505 or other handheld XRF devices. This means that the measured intensities of Mg, Al, Si, P, and S (as well as K, Ca, and Cl in other applications) are three times higher, resulting in three times faster measurements.
